Why Rockfish is a Must-Do Alaskan Adventure

Often overshadowed by Salmon and Halibut, rockfish trips offer a truly unique and exciting challenge for any angler. Known for their powerful fight, these bottom-dwelling fish require skill and a stout tackle, providing a rewarding experience as you battle them up from their deep, rocky homes.

Diverse Catches: Our captains will guide you to areas where you can hook into a wide variety of species, from the common Black Rockfish to the highly prized Yelloweye Rockfish—sometimes called the Alaskan Red Snapper.

A Culinary Delight: Many rockfish species are considered excellent table fare, with firm, white, and delicate-tasting meat perfect for grilling, frying, or making world-class fish tacos. You’ll be proud to take your catch home!

The Yelloweye Challenge: The gorgeous, bright orange-red Yelloweye Rockfish are one of the longest-lived fish in the ocean, sometimes reaching over 100 years old. Targeting these impressive fighters in the deep, rocky reefs they call home is a true angling achievement.

Our Expert Guide to Rockfish & Yelloweye Territory

Our specialized rockfish trips focus on the prime deepwater, rocky habitats where these magnificent fish congregate. This is a very different experience from typical Salmon or Halibut fishing and requires specific knowledge and equipment.

We use high-quality, heavy tackle from Penn Fishing Reels and proven techniques to ensure you can effectively drop your line into the deep and successfully pull your catch out of the snags and crevices where they hide.

Because species like the Yelloweye Rockfish are slow-growing, Alaskan fishing regulations are carefully managed to ensure sustainable populations. Our crew strictly adheres to all regulations for bag limits, size, and use of deep-water release devices to protect the future of this incredible fishery.
