The Kenai Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places on earth with a vast selection of wildlife for viewing.  One of the most popular species for tourists to seek out are whales.  These ocean giants are truly majestic in the wild and often whale watching comes free with our ocean fishing trips.  Our anglers regularly see whales and other Alaska wildlife while cruising on one of our fishing boats.

For some of our guests, the prospect of seeing whales in their natural environment warrants its own excursion.  Whale watching and Kenai Fjords tours from Seward are very popular and can be arranged as part of your stay with us.  We will work with partnering tour companies, Kenai Fjords Tours and Major Marine Tours, to provide incredible scenery and whale watching experiences.  It is also a great activity for members of your party that are not anglers.

Our chosen routes, commonly referred to as Alaska’s Boundary Waters, encompass the Swan Lake and Swanson River canoe routes situated in the northern lowlands of the expansive 2 million-acre Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge was established with the noble purpose of conserving the diverse fish and wildlife, along with their habitats, on the Kenai Peninsula. Beyond preservation, it aims to offer opportunities for fish and wildlife-oriented recreation.

You can fish for Trout (catch & release), or just witness the varied wildlife, from majestic Trumpeter Swans and moose to elusive black and brown bears, wolves, bald eagles, loons, beavers, otters, minks, muskrats, and a plethora of waterfowl—this refuge is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Lakes and streams are adorned with beaver dams, and the shores host a symphony of songbirds, shorebirds, and nesting waterfowl. Experience the thrill as they are harnessed to our comfortable wheeled sleds during this hour and a half dog sled tour. Journey through the scenic wilderness of Seward, Alaska, tracing the path to the base of Resurrection Mountain and along Box Canyon Creek. Your knowledgeable guide will share insights into our dog training techniques, explain how we steer the sleds, and regale you with captivating stories from the trail.

Upon your return to the kennel, explore our well-maintained facilities and enjoy a few laughs as a guest is playfully dressed up as an Iditarod musher. While mushing on wheels may seem unconventional, Alaska only blankets itself in snow for 4-5 months in the winter. Remarkably, the same dogs that run and triumph in the Iditarod also participate in these tours, helping them stay in prime shape during the off-season. It’s a unique and thrilling way to witness the incredible capabilities of these remarkable sled dogs year-round!

Your adventure kicks off at Girdwood Airport, where our experienced Alpine Air staff will assist you in gearing up for winter, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey. Meet your skilled pilot and prepare to be transported to another world as you take off from sea level during the summer, flying over the stunning Chugach National Forest. Ascend 3,200 feet through the Pass, reaching the pinnacle on Punchbowl Glacier, where you’ll land in the midst of winter in the mountains.

The Dog Camp, situated on the icefield above the glacier, offers a mesmerizing snowy landscape with towering mountain peaks. Here, 32 elite sled dogs from Iditarod Champion Mitch Seavey’s team, along with a dedicated staff of four mushers or dog trainers, reside in this remote environment devoid of cell phones or running water for months. They eagerly welcome your company!
Meet these remarkable dogs, world-class athletes who still enjoy a good ear scratch. Learn about the challenges and triumphs of completing the 1000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, play with the lively puppies, and witness the contagious excitement of the dogs as they’re harnessed to the sleds. Your guide will tailor the experience to your ability level, allowing you to ride, drive with assistance, or even take the reins on your own as you mush around the glacier, with plenty of stops for capturing breathtaking photos.

Our journey begins at the upper Kenai River in Cooper Landing, leading you through this 14-mile wilderness for an immersive exploration of the area’s rich history, breathtaking scenery, and diverse Alaskan wildlife.

Our trips extend into the National Wildlife Refuge, providing ample opportunities to spot bears and moose in their natural habitat. This close encounter with wildlife adds an extra layer of excitement to your adventure. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to witness the world-famous combat fishing area, where thousands of fishermen gather each year to try their luck among the millions of salmon making their annual migration.

FULL DAY

Embark on an adventure that’s both fun and safe for all ages with our extended guided raft trip. This excursion follows a similar route to our Half Day Float but delves deeper into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, leading you into the stunning Kenai River Canyon. As you continue your journey, brace yourself for a thrilling experience as you raft through Class II+ rapids, navigating narrow rocky cliffs in a part of Alaska accessible only by boat.

Feel the excitement build as the pace picks up, providing an adrenaline-filled yet secure rafting experience. The trip culminates at the picturesque Skilak Lake, offering a serene conclusion to your water adventure. From there, enjoy an easy walk up the Hidden Creek Trail to our van.
